priceless

DID YOU KNOW?
Rates of violence against women in the Pacific Islands remain some of the highest in the world.

25 and 26 November 2010, Thursday and Friday
I was helping Amnesty to collect signatures to Stop Violence Against Women in the Pacific for both days at the U2 shows in Auckland and we managed to collect around 5500 signatures on our petition.

of course, I needed a break too.
Thanks to Amnesty, we got the best ticket ever (and it's FOC)...
THE INNER CIRCLE!

People started waiting since 11.30am.

JayZ was there, yo! :)
and we were banging our heads to the music!

In New York,
Concrete jungle where dreams are made of,
There’s nothing you can’t do,
Now you’re in New York,
these streets will make you feel brand new,
the lights will inspire you,
lets here it for New York, New York, New York
- Jay-Z (feat. Alicia Keys)- Empire State of Mind

And now I present to you, U2!!!
We, volunteers at Amnesty were given the chance to stand up on stage and carry the Amnesty lanterns while U2 sang "Walk On", which was dedicated to Aung San Suu Kyi.

ok, i'm not a fan of JayZ or U2.. basically i was there to help Amnesty.
was a great experience, i encountered many types of people within that 2 days.

people from all over nz/world came to watch U2!
hamilton, wellington, brazil, philippines, argentina...
it's crazy mazy!
i think this performance has one of the most unique blend of audience.
saw a couple of fathers and daughters,
families with parents there for U2 and kids for JayZ.
from being rejected soooo many times,
to spending some time chit-chatting with 2 guys from são paulo, and
getting advice from a guy on how to get people to sign the petition,
"your target will be guys with girlfriends. they'll definitely sign your petition and show their gf that they want to put an end to violence against women!"
yes, that really work! thanks, dude! :)

a family from philippines was so happy when i talked to them about Marikina, the city in the pink of health, when i was there for the Anak-Anak Asia arts gathering. they were so excited and even took a picture with me.
there's even a mom and daughter who asked me if i get to watch the performance, and i told them that the volunteers get the inner circle ticket and her daughter told me that she would love to volunteer for future Amnesty events! :)

oh yea, saw Jay-Z and Beyonce beside me while we were waiting in line to go up the stage.

Thank you to all who have signed for the petition! :)
