theBIG hit!

Burger video a big hit

PETALING JAYA: Five friends took just eight hours to plan, shoot, edit and send in their video clip entry for The Star Online’s Drive for Food contest to emerge as one of five weekly winners for Week 1.

College students Ryan Lee Bhaskaran, 19; Teh U-Jinn, 19; Kishore Ramdas, 20; Ephraim Alfa Ritikos, 20; and Razif Hashim, 24, captured the hearts of the competition judges with their enthusiastic recommendation of a popular local brand of burger, ensuring immediate notice with a catchy jingle.

If the numbers of views on video-sharing website YouTube and the way it is being shared and distributed on social networking sites such as Facebook are taken as an indication, then it’s obvious the judges weren’t the only ones who were impressed.

Rightly, too, considering the effectiveness of the clip as a marketing tool and the time taken to complete it.

“We started shooting the clip at 8pm, driving from Ampang to Taman Tun to Damansara, practising the ditty en route, and finally completing it at midnight,” said Ryan, who co-wrote and co-directed the short video with U-Jinn.

The students then took four hours to edit their video before posting it up on YouTube.

For their hard work, the quintet took home RM100 and a place in the Drive for Food finals, where they stand a chance to take home more cash prizes as well as products sponsored by Canon, Goodyear and LG.

Drive for Food, organised by The Star Online, is an online competition that rewards contestants for capturing on video their love for food, cars or travel.

Every week, between Sept 16 and Oct 23, five lucky contestants will take home RM100 each if their video clips – posted on YouTube – are judged the best based on originality, creative expression and entertainment value.

The 10 best contestants from the first round will then get the chance to go for RM28,000 worth of cash and prizes during the main event on Nov 3 and 4.

They will be required to form a team each between two and four members, drive up north from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, stopping to capture once again on video their travelogue.

The Star will cover the cost of accommodation, petrol and toll.

Life, a miracle.

Many say life is a roller coaster, a challenge, a road, a journey…
of discoveries, happiness, hope and ones inner peace.

I say, Life is a miracle.

The greatest joy we can ever bring to our parents. especially our mothers*.

To them, we are blessings…
the greatest gift they have ever received,
the priceless memory they can ever remember,
&
the reason for them to smile and hold on another mile.

YEA, it sounds so beautiful…but i think we are just as beautiFOOL
as we thought it was.
What is happening? They treat us so well and what are we doing to them?

gosh~ we are such a shame, a pain in the neck (it turned out to be so…).
We became selfish and we put yet another frown on their faces…and make them so tired.

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Please. Protect our

MOTHER EARTH.

Reduce.Reuse.Recycle.

#another friendly reminder to save our planet.Thank You.

Penangku, Syurgaku.

My Penang, My Heaven.

*The city is connected to the mainland by the 13.5km Penang Bridge.*

PENANG...
a state,
an island,
a home.

GREETINGS FROM PENANG!
George town, the capital city of Penang is a charming old city filled with a hidden beauty....the Treasure Trove- our HERITAGE!

These 3 Precious Heritage categories are reasons I LOVE PENANG!
1. The Living Heritage.
2. The Traditional Food & Trades.
3. Building Conservation.

Fast Facts

DID YOU KNOW...

-that Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion won the UNESCO's Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards?

-
the ONLY traditional songkok maker,Mr.Haja Mohidin is still doing his business in King Street? There are more of these dying trades in Penang!

-that just a walk around the inner city of Penang is like a World Religious Walk?

- there's this team of people who is preserving and conserving our heritage...the Penang Heritage Trust.

"Destruction means no statues, no conservation efforts. It's people who put a value on things. If a society doesn't value their heritage, then it reflects ‘low civilizational values’," contends Khoo Salma, secretary with the Penang Heritage Trust.- taken from Keeping the past for posterity.

-there's once a programme for youths to learn more about Penang's heritage was called Arts-ED . I was in!

Come on to Penang!
JomPenang.com is a coming up interactive, fun and informative Penang community site where you can share photos, post events and more stuff. Check it out! it's coming soon.

Blog Action Day!

What would happen if every blog published posts discussing the same issue, on the same day?
One issue. One day. Thousands of voices.

On October 15th, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind - the environment. Every blogger will post about the environment in their own way and relating to their own topic. Our aim is to get everyone talking towards a better future.

#taken from Blog Action Day.

Dear all, let's take part in the blog action day by blogging about anything related to our environment! let's all join forces to make this day a huge success.

it's not just a burger...

Drive4Food.

Well-crafted and hilarious

IT’S moving into the second week of the Drive for Food contest, and we’re announcing the prizes for the second round of the event.

But first, let’s stay in the first round, which is where we’re still at. Now, in case you aren’t already aware of it, the contest, which is organised by the folks behind The Star Online, has all to do with food, cars, travelling and video.

The first round runs for four weeks, and it is all about submitting a video recording of your favourite dishes, eating haunts or even a travel spot, no more than 60 seconds long, and posting it on the YouTube video sharing site and providing an embed link to allow The Star Online to link to the clip.

The top five videos for the week stand to win RM100 each. Winning entries will of course be judged based on originality, creative expression and entertainment value.

Speaking of videos, the first week’s entries – and winners – can be viewed at the website at www.drive4food.com. Of particular note is one of the winning entries titled the Ramly Burger Song. It’s a well-crafted and hilarious take on that famous roadside stall dish, and definitely worth viewing. Now, if you think you can do better than that.

# Video captures of the Ramly Burger Song, one of Week 1’s winning entries in the Drive For Food contest.

Of course, it doesn’t end there. Once the first round is over on Oct 19, the contest moves on to its second phase. The 10 contestants with the best submissions from the first round will then get the chance to vie for the big prizes in store in the main event, which takes place on Nov 3 and 4.

Here, the finalists will be required to form a team each, comprising of between two and four team members, to take a drive up North from Kuala Lumpur to Penang.

Each team will have to submit a travelogue of its experience from KL to Penang; this will comprise five of the best clips of its choice – the content topic can be of a particular dish, makan place or travel destination. All clips need to include footage of the participants holding up a current copy of The Star, with bonus points to be given for creativity here.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, the cost of accommodation, petrol and toll for all participating teams will be taken care of. So, really, all you need to do is bring your own vehicle for the drive, and, of course, find those meals yourself.

Ah, yes, the prizes. The first prize consists of RM5,000 in cash, a set of four pieces of Eagle F1 215/45R17 tyres from Goodyear Malaysia and a LG MG-5646BS 26-litre microwave for each team member.

The second prize is RM3,000 in cash, a set of four pieces of Goodyear Eagle NCT5 205/45R16 tyres and a LG MG-5646BS microwave for each team member.

The third placed team will get RM1,500 in cash, a set of four pieces of Goodyear Eagle NCT5 195/55R15 tyres and a LG MG-5646BS microwave for each team member.

There will also be prizes from Canon Malaysia for the top teams.

Meanwhile, the fourth and fifth placed teams will get RM500 in cash, as well as a 25% discount voucher for any four pieces of tyres from Goodyear.

As for the remaining teams, the good news is that you won’t walk away completely empty handed – each will get a 25% discount voucher for any four pieces of tyres from Goodyear.

So, with lots to aim for, shouldn’t you be getting those videos done? Good luck, and be creative.
