THEY are the first batch of students from Phor Tay High School to participate in the Young Enterprise Programme (YE). And they have done their school proud by winning the YE Challenge Trophy for Best Managed YE Company.
The 24 girls who formed the Prominent Enterprise had successfully earned a net profit of RM6,910.42 at the end of the fiscal year and distributed a 500% investment return to their 80 investors.
Their managing director Koay Yee Ting, 16, said the team had worked hard to produce and market their products, including their best selling ladybird fridge magnet.
“We faced some challenges in the early stage when many of our products were rejected by the quality control team.
“It was finally solved when we tried ‘specialisation’ with each production member focusing on a task,” she said after receiving the trophy at the 2007 Annual Achievers’ Showcase on Tuesday.
She added that they were grateful to get support from their sponsor Dell Asia Pacific, teachers, parents and friends.
Koay said Prominent Enterprise had also done community services and donated RM100 each to Penang Pure Lotus, Adventist Hospital Clinic Services, Little Sisters of the Poor and Phor Tay High School Building Fund.
They were among the YE companies’ graduates from 20 schools who received their achievers’ certificates from YE Penang Area Chairman T.T. Yew and Air Itam assemblyman Cheang Chee Gooi.
Other winners included Methodist Girls’ School (Best Annual Report Achievement Award) and SMK Convent Green Lane (Best Product Achievement Award).
